CSKA Moscow head for warm-weather training camp in Spain… only to see sessions called off due to snow storm!
18.01.2017CSKA Moscow’s warm-weather escape from Russia’s freezing temperatures was somewhat derailed on Wednesday – with the surprising arrival of snow at their Spanish training base.
Midway through the Russian Premier League’s three-month winter break, CSKA are in Campoamor, near Valencia, to keep up fitness levels in warmer climates.
But those plans were cancelled on Wednesday, with an indoor session the order of the day after a snow storm covered their pitches and outdoor facilities.
The club’s official Twitter feed poked fun at the situation with a post reading: ‘”It’s warm in Spain” they said… Some snowy weather at our training camp in Campoamor today.’
CSKA have spent the last eight days in Campoamor before the snow put a stop to their training regime.
Instead, new manager Viktor Goncharenko’s men took part in an indoor session, working in the gym at their temporary Spanish base.
There is an orange weather warning for snow in place at Campoamor until midday on Friday — in contrast to a forecast of just clouds in CSKA’s native Moscow.
But when the snow clears up, conditions should be much more appealing than at their usual base, with minimum temperatures of around 7°C at their Spanish outpost, compared to -8°C in the Russian capital.
CSKA are third in the Russian Premier League and trail leaders Spartak Moscow by eight points, mid-way through the winter break.
